NBA mock trades have one fatal flaw.
The San Antonio Spurs might very realistically trade De’Aaron Fox this season. But a lot of mock trades have them attach a draft pick to him, just to get him off the roster.
The Spurs are following the OKC Thunder’s playbook: build around stars, acquire role players, and once the supporting cast gets expensive, use the draft to replace them.
There’s a really strong case that the Spurs shouldn’t make a trade at all.
